Through my work as a home health Occupational Therapy Assistant I have worked with many patients and their caregivers.
I realized that though many caregivers feel that their work is rewarding, many of them experience stress in a variety of forms such as feeling disorganized, not getting enough sleep, back pain, lack of time for themselves, and not getting enough support.
The problem is that many caregivers are so focused on giving the best care they can that they often forget to take care of themselves.
I've worked with caregivers to provide them with techniques to make their lives easier by teaching back prevention strategies, using adaptive equipment to their benefit, how to get a better nights sleep, setting up a daily schedule/routine, exercises they can do in the home, and more!
The caregivers that followed the strategies reported they felt less stress and overall greater happiness. Helping them made me want to create a guide to help other caregivers!
